National Pancake Day!

I usually stay away from the IHOP's and Denny's of the world because without fail, the utensils are always sticky, the tables are sticky, and the surrounding patrons are less than charming. But I put those things aside for a little celebration. Celebrating the little things in life makes me happy.

& IHOP's National Pancake Day couldn't have come at a better time. I've been craving pancakes for a week. & I happen to love breakfast foods any time of day. Who can turn down crispy bacon & fluffy pancakes smothered with maple syrup? Not me, that's for sure.

Would you look at the man behind me? He looks so happy.

Pancakes make the world a better place.

You should be jealous

I've heard they're overrated. I've heard they're (GASP!)...ugly and only bought as gag gifts (no way!). I've heard "Don't buy them! You're helping make the douchebag inventor rich!".

You wanna know what else I heard?

I heard snuggies were on clearance at Target for $12. Mhm!

I was going to go for the pink one but the box containing this leopard print with the words "WILD SIDE" printed on it was pretty much screaming my name. Hell, I'm wild. I'm wearing a frickin' snuggie.

If you're not jealous of my awesome backwards robe then that can only mean that you own one - Which means you're one step closer to attending my snuggie only costume party.

Not really but how epic would that be?!

Favorite Song of the Week

I like to play out songs and sing off-key in the comfort of my car. On constant repeat this week is Alicia Keys' Unthinkable. I love her voice. Gives me goosebumps. I love when people sing with feeling & she always delivers.

She'll be in concert March 27th...anyone, anyone?

Meat Market

Around 5pm in the afternoon when I realized my Saturday night would very likely include going to the gym, eating a turkey and cheddar cheese sandwich and watching old Dexter episodes on the internet, I decided to take Angie and Emma up on their offer to have a little spontaneous night out which of course can only mean two things...dinner and drinks.

We referred to my holy grail - Yelp. After deciding Lincoln Road was where we wanted to go, we decided on Meat Market because of their ridiculously delicious sounding menu. First, let me just say out of all of the places in Miami, Lincoln Road is one of my favorites. It's a long strip near Miami Beach filled with both trendy restaurants and romantic cafes that all offer outside seating perfect for people-watching. The tourists, locals and transvestites give the place great energy. Yes, trannies. It is Miami Beach after all.

After a pretty long wait, we were finally seated outside. I wish I had taken pictures of the interior of the restaurant. It was funky yet sleek. Think white leather seats, chocolate brown booths and amber lighting. Sexy, swank and borderline pretentious yet not at all. Just like I like it.

Dinner consisted of crab and lobster cake with tomato butter and papaya salad, crispy crab tail with passionfruit, seabass with corn tomato concassé and truffles, tropical braised brisket with coconut, mango and sweet potato.

Holy tropical fruit, Batman. This place is good. GOOD good. I know that's a lot of seafood for a place called Meat Market but if they do seafood right then I can only imagine how good their signature steaks are.

Special thanks to Nigel and "Buster", the two Canadian guys who interrupted our girl time with incessant, incoherent yet entertaining talk of cabrons, Whoopi Goldberg, Orlando Bloom and Africa.

Death to Valentine's 2010

I am usually all about Valentine's day. I mean all about it. I like any holiday that has it's own color associations and traditions. & if you know me, you know I'll take any excuse to get dressed up and have a little night on the town.

Yeeeah, not so much this year. You can find me at Hooters having a cheeseburger and curly fries with a side of cameltoe, no doubt.

& I'll be in jeans. Take that, Cupid.

Red Beans & Rice

I could eat it everyday. Ironic because I did eat it everyday from as young as I can remember until I moved out. Literally, my mom would only make beans and rice and I complained every.single.day. I think that's what made me interested in culinary arts. The lack of choices at home.

& now I miss it (that's the ironic part). So every couple of months my mom makes my favorite: red beans & rice and ropa vieja (braised flank steak in tomato sauce). May not look so good but it is! Nothing like mom's cooking.

p.s. Have you heard Sade's new album? Love. My favorite is
The Moon & The Sky (LOVE!).

"I gotta check into rehab 'cause baby, you're my diseeeease"

I've been on a sushi rampage lately. I mean, listen to me, I'm even dedicating love songs to it.

Seriously, I don't know what's wrong with me. I've been craving it for every meal for the past week. Dumplings too. I assume it's 'cause it's perfectly acceptable to dunk either in large amounts of soy sauce. & I love me some soy sauce.

Go to Ra. Do it, do it!

Not only do they have the bestest sushi but you can dance to
Feist while waiting for it.

Soy sauce and
Feist? Yes and yes.

What us girls do superbowl weekend

Friend Maria invited us out to a little girls night on Saturday. We pre-partied at her boo's house with green tea & vodka and a great view of Biscayne.

After, we had dinner at
Dolores, But You Can Call Me Lolita. This place has been on my list for a while (I keep a very long list of restaurants I want to visit) so I was excited. But the appetizers outshined the entrees and the service was pretty horrific. We were there for three and a half hours. Albeit in great company but a bit overkill. Just a bit.

We then went downstairs to their lounge where fists were pumped and beats were...well, beaten, of course to the obligatory
I'm In Miami, Bitch!

I was reminded why going out dancing without "security" is not the greatest idea. We were surrounded by 50-year-old drunken gremlins trying to invade what Lucy appropriately called the "No Penetration Circle". I was ready for bed after 10 minutes.

However, however, however...I had a good time overall (for realz).

Thanks for letting me cross you off my list, Lolita but
sorry I cannot recommend you. & I thought your crème brûlée sucked.

The last of Utah, I promise.

I miss it!

Tubing!

A couple of videos from our tubing adventures @ Gorgoza Park. I enjoyed tubing because it required no skill. Ha.

Sorry, I couldn't keep the camera straight at some points. My hand was completely numb from the cold.
