A "visitor" from New York

Amy was here for Thanksgiving and requested I take her to my favorite food truck. That was an easy choice.

Giselle came along and after deciding that Yardhouse was not the type of bar "where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came", we went to my house to watch Eat, Pray, Love where I introduced them to my new love of sparkling cider and my old love of whoring out Christmas.

Then, Amy showed me what she's learned in Harlem and gave me a dubi. I will spare you the after pictures but I'll have you know my hair was super silky and shiny after. Mhm.

ps. Chuchi rice from LHG is badass.

Holiday Spirit

It's usually that time of year when I start bitching that it does not, at all, feel like Christmas.

Everything here is green. Air conditioners remain on at all times. Leaves are in tact and people are wearing shorts and flip flops.

But it's an unwritten rule in the Jerez family that whichever aunt/uncle/mom hosts Thanksgiving each year, must have the house fully decorated for the holidays.

Thanksgiving was a success. Lots of family, lots of food & lots of laughs. My desserts were a huge hit and we listened to Nat King Cole's Christmas album all night.

& just like that, the sugar plum fairies worked their magic.

I'm happy to say that Christmas decorations are no longer pissing me off.

Now, if only that pampers commercial with the babies would stop creeping me out.

Miami Street Food Court

I can barely keep up with the amount of food trucks popping up each month! I dig it.

& on Tuesday-Thursday nights, the pros and rookies come out to what has been deemed the Miami Street Food Court. & the "lineup" switches everyday. I dig this too.

On this particular night, Latin Burger, Dim Ssam A Go Go, The Fish Box and Dolce Peccati (better known as Gelato truck) were out and it was paaacked.

I ordered la camaronera sandwich (fried scrimpz) and pistachio gelato.

I then went down the block for some tacos from Latin House Grill. I'm a jerk.

Dude, but seriously, after trying about 80% of the food trucks in South Miami, Latin House Grill still has my heart. Or taste buds.

Miami Street Food Court is located on 65th ave & Bird.

Just wanted to introduce you to the most amazing gelato in Miami.

Get one scoop of amaretto, one scoop of hazelnut and die of happiness.

I was on fire. How was your weekend?

I spent mine:

- Playing NBA Jams. My thumbs hurt from dunking so much. Ha!

- Eating fondant, drinking sparkling cider and celebrating an anniversary.
- Watching The Human Centipede. Don't do it.
- A trip to deep Homestead for tacos al pastor.
- Enjoying the breezy nights.
- & watching Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, of course.

I cannot wait until Thanksgiving!

Cheese Me

[grilled gruyere on brioche]

[short rib slider]

After being dragged to a boring car show in Bayfront (I do not do cars), I decided the only way I'd save my Sunday afternoon was with a trip to Wynwood where I could finally try the Cheese Me Mobile.

The entire menu sounded so good that I couldn't decide on what to get. So I did what I always do in these situations...I spazzed out and ordered the most boring things possible. #fail

But even the most boring menu items were full of #win.

Check out the menu

How I know my father loved (loves) me & nostalgia

My sweet tooth overpowers all my other teeth and as a fellow sweet tooth-er himself, my father knew I meant serious business.

As a child, if I didn't have my stash, I might have foamed at the mouth and barked at guests or even go as far as humping the ice cream man for my daily fix.

But my father always made sure I had a decent supply of Little Debbie zebra cakes to hold me over each week.

& when the holidays would begin, my zebra cakes were replaced with these.

Now, everytime I see them, I
know the holidays have officially begun. These, my friends, are my red cups from Starbucks. They give me warm, little fuzzies all over and bring a tiny tear to my eye.

Thanks for keeping me from turning tricks, dad.

Holidays = Sequins

silver or copper?

This seems to be the trend around here these days

and by "this" I mean, me, being reeeeally stressed out due to school work (the last couple weeks of any semester is such a pain in the ass, no?) and "making myself feel better" by eating gross (fucking fantastic) foods.

On the way home from school I usually have a conversation with myself that goes a little like this:

Me: I'm starving. School blows. This hour long drive sucks.
Me: I know what would make you feel better.
Me: and what would that be, Me?
Me: McDonald's fries or 5 doughnuts from Krispy Kreme OR stopping by a food truck.
Me: But I bought all that boring health food and it's about to rot in my fridge.
Me: Yeah, but twitter says Latin Burger is on Kendall Dr.
Me: You're an asshole. [as I take the Kendall Dr. exit]

As you can see, I'm easily convinced by...me.

Oddly enough, I can rarely convince myself to go to the gym.

That thing up there is the Burger Beast from Latin Burger. A chorizo & sirloin burger with pulled pork. Can we get any more disgusting?

That weekend I stole Bananas' look and realized how much I've missed sushi.

Friday was a perfect, chilly night that pretty much demanded dinner on Lincoln Road.

I'd been wanting to try Doraku for years and I couldn't remember the last time I'd had sushi (sad) so I got to work trying to convince the masses.

It worked. We went. We loved. We went to Shake Shack for dessert.

Afterwards, we all went to a friends house to play Dance Central on his new Kinect for Xbox. Sooooo fun and hilarious watching a 6'8" guy dancing to Christina Milian's Dip It Low.

Big thanks to
Mayra for being so dang trendy and indirectly convincing me to finally buy a white blazer.

That weekend we took a trip to Dania and ate our weight in greasy food.

With the help of a friend and his personalized Yoda/TomTom app (hilarious), we made it to Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor Saturday night.

This place is entertaining. There's a girl blowing bubbles, a man making balloon animals and another man that sounded like Barry White on his keyboard playing the Electric Slide while you wait for your table. Sensory overload.

The food is comparable to Denny's but it's worth a visit for the obscene ice cream concoctions, homemade cola and that disturbing 1lb hot dog.
